12 Jun What You Need to Know About the Muscadine Grape
We’re always looking to nature to provide the best ingredients to use in our products. One of our favorites is the muscadine grape. This grape is an ingredient in our healthy-aging product Vivix®, but what makes this grape so special? Find out below.
About Muscadine Grapes
Muscadines are one of nature’s rarest, most potent grapes native to North Carolina and other parts of the southeastern region of the US. These large, thick-skinned, and seeded grapes grow in small, loose clusters but are often harvested individually. Muscadines have a unique polyphenol profile that allows them to survive in harsh environments with extra protection against bacteria, fungus, yeast, drought, excess moisture, and temperature extremes.
The Benefits of Muscadines
Unlike other grapes, muscadine grapes have high concentrations of ellagic acid and ellagitannins. So when you combine these with the other muscadine grape polyphenols, it yields an immense antioxidant power.* This antioxidant power supports healthy aging because it helps cells protect and repair DNA to slow cellular aging.*†
The Importance of Cellular Health
The health of your cells strongly influences your overall health. Cells are continuously damaged by environmental exposure, and even the simple act of eating a meal can result in the formation of free radicals that can damage DNA. This is why we use the diverse polyphenols from muscadine grapes in combination with resveratrol and extracts of red wine, pomegranate, chebulic myrobalan, purple carrot, and black currant to create our proprietary blend of Vivix®. The key ingredients in Vivix have been shown in laboratory studies to activate cellular defenses, neutralize free radicals, and slow the development of damaging AGE proteins that may accumulate and lead to cellular aging.‡
The muscadine is definitely not your average grape, which is why we appreciate it so much. And it is only one of the many botanical solutions that nature has to offer.

†Laboratory studies show that Vivix key ingredients protect and repair DNA. In a clinical study, key ingredients were shown to blunt the inflammatory response of healthy people to an unhealthy meal, which can lead to cellular aging over time.
‡In laboratory studies, Vivix key ingredients help slow the formation of AGE proteins that can lead to cell damage.
